Production Of A Doll's House

One of Carrie Cracknell's best and most popular productions is her version of A Doll's House.

A Doll's House is a three-act play written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. It first premiered on December 21st, 1879 at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The play tells the story of a married woman who, at the time in Norway, deals with the lack of opportunities in a male-dominated world.

Cracknell produced the new adaptation of A Doll's House based on the English language version by Simon Stephens in August 2013 at the Young Vic, London, Great Britain.

She later transferred the play to the Duke of York in the West End and to BAM in New York.

Her version of the show was massively loved by the audience. While talking about the play, she said, "People sometimes live false lives with partners. It's about human beings trying to find the truest versions of themselves. "

Though she does not like to call herself a feminist director, Cracknell does give the audience a better perspective on women's culture and status in society.

In an interview, talking about her play's main theme, which is gender inequality, she stated:

"Women's lifestyles have changed irrevocably," but tensions still resonate, she says. Yet today's Noras (the play's lead) are differently trapped: "We are sold the idea that women are free, our experience equal to men's. The new entrapment is about women trying to fulfill an infinite number of roles. "

For her adaptation, she was nominated for the Evening Standard Best Director Award.

“I think Persuasion is Austen’s most mature work. It’s not as widely read as Pride and Prejudice, but you really can’t overestimate how the popularity of certain books is determined by what is on school syllabuses.
