She lost her biological father from alcoholism at two and was adopted by Daniel Harold Freeland-her mother's second husband.

"My biological father Shawn Chippewa died from an alcohol-related accident when I was a baby. My mother later remarried a Navajo man named Daniel Freeland and while I had the privilege to be raised in a home filled with traditional teachings, I still felt lost over the loss of my dad Shawn, which took most of my life to unpack."

Morningstar Angeline wanted to be an actor to represent people like her on-screen. In one of her interviews, she said:

"Growing up in Gallup, New Mexico, and not seeing anyone who looked like me on screen made it feel so unrealistic. I participated in drama programs through grade school but it wasn't until I was in high school living in the Los Angeles area that it seemed attainable – a potential career?"

She started acting in Los Angeles following her high school graduation. However, despite working as an actor for several years, she didn't get big opportunities.

In an interview, remembering her strugglings days, Angeline stated:

"Prior to being cast in this film, I had thrown in the towel with acting. After high school, I pursued acting in Los Angeles for a couple of years and felt so disheartened."

She continued:

"There were few roles for me as a Native and the whole process (like auditions) felt toxic to me. I had been working as a photographer and waitressing when I received the audition and sent in my tape. It was less than a week later that I was on set shooting in Santa Fe, NM."

After being cast in the American drama film Drunktown's Finest as Nizhoni Smiles, her fate changed. 

Based on the story of three young Navajo Native Americans, the movie premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

Morningstar earned the Best Supporting Actress award at the American Indian Movie Award 2014.

Similarly, she grabbed the role of Doli in the short film Delivery From Earth in the same year. 

Later, Morningstar Angeline appeared as Tribal Station Receptionist in the 2015 TV series Longmire.

In 2016, the actress portrayed in the short film I Am Thy Weapon as Daya. She also appeared as Party Guest in Katie Says Goodbye and Jade in Raven.

For the latter, she won Best Acting Performance at the Institute of American Indian Arts, which premiered at the 2017 IMAGINENative Film Festival.

In the same year, she starred in the short film, The Time That Remains as Grace. Likewise, the Indigenous actor Angeline played the role of Sound Engineer in the 2017 Cowboy Drifter.

Why Is She Not Involved In Mainstream Modeling?

Angeline is also into modeling. She has worked for indigenous designers like Keri Ataumbi, Patricia Michaels, Bethany Yellowtail, Loren Aragon, and Justin Louis.

"Modeling is sort of something I fell into. I don't consider myself a model because I don't consider myself very good at [laughs], but it's always an honor when someone asks me to model for them. Over the last year, I've prioritized modeling work that also tells a story because I am most comfortable when my body movement is part of an "act" or a character that I can embody."

The Yellowstone alum Morningstar has revealed that she does not want to involve in mainstream modeling. 

According to her, she does not prefer the way big fashion houses use models.

"I think mainstream modeling is something I've avoided because the images that are often in print can be or have been harmful to me in the past, especially as a young girl. I've never been comfortable with my weight and I didn't want to be a part of an industry that I felt contributed to me and other women's toxic body images."

She loves working with indigenous and Native designers, as they focus more on their design and representing their culture than on prioritizing beauty standards.
