Locke finally made his television debut after being chosen to play the role of Charlie Spring among 10,000 teenagers in Heartstopper.

"I had a phone call from my agent," Locke revealed the story of how he found out about the role in an interview. 

He said:

"He goes, 'Are you sat down?' And I just screamed. I knew he wouldn't have asked if I was sitting down if I hadn't got it. Then he was like, 'You got it.' And I just screamed again."

Heartstopper is a coming-of-age romance drama based on Alice Oseman's Webtoon comic and graphic novel of the same name.

Locke plays a year ten student at Durham Grammar School for Boys who is openly gay on the show.

His character is in a closeted relationship with Ben Hope (Sebastian Croft) but slowly falls in love with a year 11 rugby player Nick Nelson (Kit Connor).

The show features actors like Yasmin Finney, William Gao, and Cormac Hyde-Corrin.

Joe is also appearing in Dawn King's play The Trials. He was chosen among 1372 young people for his part.

The story revolved around the children jurors who will judge the older generation's contributions to the climate crisis.
