Meet Carl Swanigan, Jr-Older Brother Of Late Basketball Player Caleb Swanigan

Carl Swanigan Jr is an occasional basketball player who, among people, is famous as the older brother of late American professional basketball player Caleb Swanigan.

Caleb died on June 20, 2022, at the age of 25.

Read here the heartbreaking story of two brothers who, despite all their efforts, could not save each other.

Born To An Abusive Father-Who Were Carl Swanigan Jr And Caleb Swanigan's Parents?

Both Carl Jr and Caleb grew up in poverty and abusive households. Their parents, Tanya and Carl Swanigan Sr. had six children.

Carl Sr was a volatile father-he battled d*rg addiction and often physically assaulted his wife.

He died of diabetes complications in 2014. On the other hand, there are no reports on their biological mother's current whereabouts.

During their time together, Carl and Caleb's family relocated between Indianapolis and Utah for over a decade.

By the time Caleb was 13, he had lived in five different homeless shelters and attended 13 different schools.

How Carl Swanigan 'Save' Caleb Swanigan From Their Toxic House And Found Him A New Home?

Reportedly Caleb inherited his biological father's two feature-one, height and the other tendency to obesity.

Carl Sr. was 6 ft 8 in (203 cm) and weighed nearly 500 pounds (230 kg) at the time of his death.

Similarly, by the time Swanigan was a teenager, he was 6 ft 2 in (188 cm) and 360 pounds (160 kg).

The toxic household, poverty and constant moving pressurized Caleb more, resulting in further weight gain.

So, when their mother moved the family to Houston again, Carl Jr. decided to do something for his younger brother.

He contacted his former AAU basketball coach and former Detriot Lions linebacker Roosevelt Barnes to help him.

Barnes, residing in Fort Wayne, Indiana, agreed to take Caleb only if he could adopt him and raise him as his son.

Carl agreed for the future of his brother, and the two separated.

Caleb went on to live with his adoptive parents. With a cardiologist's clearance, Barnes began putting him through workouts and diets.

He had lost 260 pounds (120 kg) by the time he finished high school.

In a way, Carl saved his brother's life and made his dream come true, even if it was for a short time.
