Athena Lee and James Kottak got married in 1996 and gave birth to a son named Matthew Kottak in 1997. 

The duo divorced after thirteen years in 2012, citing irreconcilable differences. Their separation was not amicable as the duo fought hard for the custody of their then-teenage son since both Tobi and Miles were already above 18. 

According to TMZ, the former Scorpions drummer asked the court to give him full custody, claiming that his former wife was an alcoholic who wasn't fit to raise their then 15-year-old child. 

He filed a document asking a judge to change his ex's primary custody of their teenage son and ordered him to cough up $1,466/month in child support and another $1,738/month in spousal support.

In the file, Kottak claimed that their son had been living with him 100% of the time since January 2012, after a big fallout with his mother, and also specified a lower monthly payment as his income is not steady as opposed to Athena's. 

In response to those claims, Lee stated: 

"He's trying everything he can to knock me down. It's only about the money for James.

Tobi Kottak has two brothers: Miles "Morris" Kottak and half-sibling Matthew Kottak. Both are younger than her.
