Simon Helberg and Jocelyn Towne have been happily married for many years now; however, it was not an easy ride to get here for the duo.

Helberg mentioned that his commitment phobia made him break up with his then-girlfriend Towne when he realized he wanted to marry her.

He abruptly broke up and broke both his and her heart only because he thought he was not made for commitment.

In his interview with Mirror, the Big Bang Theory Star stated:

"It's sort of embarrassing. It's about my wife and I and our break up before I proposed. I thought I would like to marry this girl, so first of all I'm going to systematically destroy my entire life and our relationship and lie and ruin all my friendships."

He continued:

"I freaked out, I thought I had feelings for other people, I thought that I needed more of an exciting life. I had the perfect thing but for whatever reason...It was an exercise in self destruction."

Although Helberg realized his mistake, it was a bit late. Following the split, Towne decided to move to Paris, France, where she met another man.

Gandi said, "You don't know who is important to you until you actually lose them, " The same happened with the actor.

Simon went after her, and though it was not easy, he eventually convinced her to take him back, and the duo ended up back in the US. 

This time around, Helberg did not waste his time and immediately proposed to her.

Speaking on the Late Show with David Letterman, he joked: "I proposed immediately on her return because I thought if I can just trap her and force her to marry me that's the most romantic thing anyone could ask for."

Though their engagement was not a fairytale, they sort out all their differences and choose over insecurities, which is enough.

The pair then got married on (15 July 2007 in an intimate wedding and the rest is history.

Helberg And Towne Made Film "We'll Never Have Paris" Based On Their Real Love Story

The couple's first joint venture was the 2014 American romantic comedy film; We'll Never Have Paris.

The movie "describes the couple's personal experiences of being in a long term relationship, and the decisions and indecisions leading up to eventually tying the knot."

Simon worked as the actor, writer, producer, and director, and Jocelyn worked as a director on the film.

When the actor decided to make the film, he did not tell his wife immediately. He made a script and then showed it to her.

Jocelyn confessed that she was surprised and doubtful that Simon was prepared to reveal the details of the relationship.

But later came to terms with it. "I was really scared when I first sat down to read the script, which turned out to be hilarious,  making me look back on the experience in a different way," said Jocelyn.
