Solbergelva-born Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve took the world by storm following her breakout performance in the 2021 black comedy-drama The Worst Person in the World.

Her representation of Julie, a psychology student, dealing with complex and raw experiences of life is possibly one of the best performances of the past decade.

Life, however, was not always as beautiful as it is for Reinsve. She had a traumatic childhood and at sixteen, she left home.

Renate Reinsve was born on 24 November 1987 in Solbergelva, Norway. 

Currently, she is 34-year-old and stands tall at 5' 10" (178 cm).

She attended Kunsthøgskolen I Oslo but was kicked out at 16. Similarly, she also joined Trøndelag Theater at nine.

Reinsve, a few times during an interview, mentioned that she had a traumatic childhood between nine and 16 years old.

Though the actress has not gotten into the details of traumas, she has revealed that those years have led her to suffer from posttraumatic stress.

After being "kicked out," Renate left her hometown and moved to Scotland, where she worked at bars and stayed in hostels. 

During her interview with James Corden on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the actress stated:

"After I got kicked out of school, I wanted to go to Costa Rica and work with animals and surf and stuff, but I went to Edinborough."

The actress who shared the couch on the show with another 2021 breakout star, Olivia Rodrigo, further said:

"I didn't have-no one would hire me, it was very strange. So, the hostel i was staying in, they felt so sorry for me, I came home and the last day I had no more money, I was on the streets the next day they me, could you come down to reception, i had a job interview with the manager."

She then said the manager felt bad for her and gave her the job.

"The manager asked, had you ever poured beer before? You worked in a Bar? No, Okaym but you're over 18? No, fine, you get the job."

Renate Reinsve-Role As Julie On The Worst Person in the World

Ironically, Renate Reinsve's first on-screen role was in The Worst Person in the World, director Joachim Trier's film in Oslo, August 31. 

She appeared in the 2011 film and only had only dialogue. Who knew that later the small line role would help her gain the most important role of her life.

"It was with Joachim Trier in Oslo, August 31. I was in the first grade in acting school and received an email: "Can you send an introduction of yourself?" He decided to take me, but it was a very small part – I had one line."

Following that, the actress appeared in many minor roles in movies and tv shows such as The Orheim Company, Women in Oversized Men's Shirts, and Mysteries på Sommerbåten.

Similarly, she was also attached to projects like Villmark 2, Welcome to Norway, Nesten voksen, and Dog Eat Dog.

Most notably, Renate was in the tv series Best: Før and Hvite gutter-played Anemone and Frida, respectively.

Almost Quit Acting Before Landing The Role In Joachim Trier's Film

Even though she was in the industry for more than a decade, Reinsve did not get a satisfactory role and quit acting.

"I told my boyfriend and some of my closest friends I was going to do something else."

She even decided to start a new career path.

"I had renovated a house and I felt so empowered. There's not many women who do carpentry and I wanted to learn it, and make a community where people could learn."

However, the day after she "quit acting," Renate Reinsve received a phone call that changed her life forever. 

She was offered to do a film with her first director Joachim Trier, but the script was yet to be written. She obviously said yes!! And the rest is history.

Reinsve got the primary role of Julie in the critically acclaimed The Worst Person in the World. 

The movie is the coming-of-age drama of a 29-yea-old psychology student who deals with her career, heartbreaks, relationships, and more.

The movie reached the international platform and had huge viewership in America.

It earned a nomination for Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay at the 94th Academy Awards.

Additionally, Reinsve won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress and earned a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. 

Many people were disappointed as she did not receive an Oscar nomination.

As for her upcoming projects, she is appearing in the titled X, based on a life of prostitute wrestle.

The Worst Person in the World star Renate Reinsve has mentioned that she is dating someone in a few interviews. 

She is happy and is in a perfect place in a relationship. However, the actress has not revealed anything about her boyfriend.
