Why Did Ke Huy Quan Quit Acting? What Made Him Return After 20 Years?

Despite having a strong debut and many successful movies under his belt, Ke Huy Quan's stardom was short-lived.

After a few years, he struggled to get a good role and remain a typecast.

In an interview, he stated: "

As I got older, in my late teens and early twenties, there was nothing there for me," he recalled. "It was just really difficult being an Asian actor working in Hollywood at that time. I found myself spending a lot of time waiting for that phone to ring."

After a while, Quan took the hardest decision and quit acting but still contributed in different forms to honor his love for the cinema and the cinema world.

After decades, a film called Crazy Rich Asians came as a ray of hope for the Chinese-American actor to return to acting. Crazy Rich Asians is a 2018 American romantic comedy-drama film that features the majority cast of Chinese descent.

"I remember watching it three times in the theater, and I cried three times," he says. "Not only because it was a really moving story. I also cried because I missed being up on the screen."

Fortunately, Luck was on his side because when, in Everything Everywhere All At Once, director Daniel Scheinert was searching for an actor to play Waymond,

Daniel's wife saw a gif of Quan as Short Round on Twitter. They realized that he would be just the right age for the role and contacted Quan via Twitter.
